Harassment Training Requirements in California Have Changed... Are You Ready?

On September 30, 2018, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a series of bills addressing workplace sexual harassment. This sweeping set of bills expand legal protections to victims of workplace harassment and expanding legal liability for those found to have engaged in such conduct.

SB 1343 requires employers of five or more employees (this includes seasonal and temporary employees) to provide sexual harassment training every two years with the following requirements:

  • Must be completed by January 1, 2020 (so training must take place in 2019)
  • Must be completed within 6 months of new employees assuming their position (then a refresher every 2 years)
  • Must be at least two hours for all supervisors
  • Must be at least one hour for all nonsupervisory employees

For managers and supervisors, the two-hour Drawing the Line: Creating a Harassment-Free Workplace™ (California Mgr/Sup Version) meets SB1343 - including AB1825, AB2053, SB396 and CA FEHA requirements.

For employees, the one-hour The Consequences of Sexual Harassment™ (CA Employees) meets SB1343 for sexual harassment training for non-supervisors.
