Move From Conflict to Growth - A Quick Tip

by Jon Grannis, 3 years ago

Tackling Stress in the Workplace
The jack pine is a species of tree that can be found throughout Canada’s vast Boreal forests. Unlike other pine trees that shed their pine cones and seeds annually, the pine cones of the jack pine will hold on to their seeds indefinitely until exposed to intense heat. In the charred wake of a forest fire, jack pine seedlings take root and begin the forest’s rebirth.

Like a fire, a conflict between colleagues with different work styles and backgrounds can cause short pain and intense emotions. Even though this can seem destructive, conflict can be the catalyst to release seeds of new growth that can take hold and create a better understanding and relationship for both people involved.

Action Step: If you have a conflict, reflect on the possible cause(s) and related areas of growth that will help to improve future communication.

Discussion Questions:

  1. How can we move through conflicts we have as a team to find better ways to work together?
  2. How does a difference in approach or ideas help us to grow in new ways?
  3. When conflicts do happen, how do we repair our relationships if they have been damaged?
  4. What guidelines can we develop so that when conflicts arise they are not destructive but constructive?

Conflict Clock: Taking T.I.M.E. to Resolve Conflict in the Workplace™

Handle workplace conflict effectively with this new program! Conflict Clock™ presents four proven strategies that will help participants break old and negative response habits. Conflict with another person can create stress – the kind of stress that can lead to a response that makes the problem worse, rather than better. Our bodies naturally gravitate toward a Fight, a Flight, or a Freeze response when we feel threatened or upset. This program is designed to help all employees identify and change our responses - better dealing with the conflict at hand.
